26/09/2016

East Anglia Transport Museum held their ‘Trolleybus Weekend’ this weekend (24th & 25th September) formerly known as the ‘End of Season Gala’ this annual event has always been a popular one with enthusiasts and families alike, this year was no different with just under 1000 Visitors attending over both days, the museum stayed open till 9pm on the Saturday for visitors to get a unique experience of having rides in the dark something that people do not get to experience on a standard open day.

The ‘Trolleybus Weekend’ saw the operationof 10 Trolleybuses from 7 different Cities and Towns running from the museum’s fleetas well as the addition of vintage taxi rides around the site and free vintage bus service’s to and from Beccles and Lowestoft along with a free park and ride service, like all open days there was also the opportunity for visitors to ride on the Trams and Narrow Gauge Railway.

East Anglia Transport Museum also welcomed some interesting visiting vehicles including 4 Land-Rovers, Classic busesincluding a London Routemaster, a Midland Red Coach and a London Green Line RF Coach from the 1950’s, an Eastern National Lodekka,2 Vintage Taxis as well as some vintage cars. There was also trade stands selling various transport related items as well as a delicious BBQ in the park helping to make this event such a great success

This popular Event also saw the Grand Opening of East Anglia Transport Museum’s newest exhibit the ‘Taxi House’ this exhibit shows what it would have been like in a dingy Taxi Garage complete with replica Foreman’s office in the 1960s. In here we have tried to have another interesting exhibition for visitors to see what a typical Taxi Garage would have looked like in the busy King’s Cross area of London

Events like this could not happen without the dedication of our hardworking members. The Museum is run solely by volunteers who give their time when they can, if you think you would like to get involved with this wonderful local charity please get in touch

The museum would like to thank all those who attended, both exhibitors and visitors, who helped make the weekend a success. We would also like to thank First Eastern Counties for supplying the ‘Park & Ride’ vehicles as well as the Co-Op food store on Ashburnham way for allowing the use of their car park

Attention now turns to our Halloween event on Saturday 29th October where there will be some spooky happenings including a fun ‘witch hunt’ for the Children
