Latest Covid-19 News 16-04-21
Are you coming to visit us on Sunday? With just two days to go we thought we’d put together some what’s, where’s, why’s and how’s so you can prepare for your great trip to the museum…
We’ll be running a tram, trolleybus, the railway (along its newly extended route) and offering rides on one of our fleet of motor buses around the local area as an added bonus whilst the museum isn’t quite back to normal. Rides are unlimited and included in the admission price.
Can we go in the display buildings?
Unfortunately not. However, we’re going to open up all the external doors to as many buildings as we can so you’ll be able to see as much of our collection as possible from outside in the open air.
Are any parts of the museum completely closed?
As they’re so small and completely indoors, we won’t be able to open the Old Tram Body exhibition room or Woodside Post Office and there may be one or two other minor parts of the site that are inaccessible just for the moment.
Is the cafe open?
Yes, for takeaways. Our outside seating areas will be available and we’ve even added a little more covered space in case the weather doesn’t quite play ball.
Can we buy things from the museum shop?
Absolutely. The shop will be open throughout and we’ll be continuing to limit the number of people inside to one family or bubble at a time.
How about masks, social distancing and all the other bits we’ve had to get used to?
As the museum is open air, there’s no requirement to wear a face covering when you’re enjoying exploring the site. You will need to pop on a face covering when you’re in the cafe or shop and when you’re on any of the vehicles – unless you’re exempt or under 11. We’ll also be carrying fewer people on the vehicles to enable families and bubbles to distance from one another as well as limiting the maximum number on site at any one time – although there’s plenty of space. You’ll find some additional signage around the museum to help with social distancing too which we’d love you to stick to to help make everyone’s day really enjoyable.
Are you doing NHS Track & Trace?
We’re obliged to ask you to check in every adult in your party to the museum using the NHS App when you arrive, or we can take details manually on the gate if you’d prefer (they’re stored securely and only used for this purpose as you’d expect!).
How about the rule of 6?
We are required to admit groups subject to the government’s Rule of 6/Two Households protocols, which should also be followed at all times when inside the museum or on vehicles.
Can we bring dogs, our own food, old auntie Ethel etc.
Of course – just check out or website or leaflet for details.
Do we need to pre-book?
As when we opened last year, no pre-booking is necessary and we operate on a first-come, first-served basis only. The car park gates open around 30 mins before museum opening time (which is 1200 to 1630 btw!)
Where can I find your opening days, times and prices for the season?
All on our website, along with lots of other information to help you plan your day.
Can we use our Gift Aid return ticket from last season?
As long as it’s still in date, that’s no problem. And if it’s not, you can get a new one for the next 12 months when you Gift Aid your admission fee the first time you visit.
We can’t wait to see you all again from this Sunday!
